Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich took a brutal dig at star Indian batter Virat Kohli for his poor show in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) down under. As India were chasing a target of 340 runs in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Kohli got out scoring a mere five runs. Eventually India were bowled out for 155 runs as Australia won the match by 184 runs, and took a lead of 2-1. After that, Katich said that Kohli has lost his title of ‘King’ and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has now taken the mantle from him.

Virat Kohli started his BGT campaign on a high with a hundred in the first Test in Perth. However, the 36-year-old hasn’t been able to continue his form for the rest of the series. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah has been a lone warrior for India in the ongoing series, taking 30 scalps in four matches at an average of 12.83. “The King is dead. He trudges off. King Bumrah has taken the mantle now. Kohli looks dejected with himself. That was a big knock for him. He has come up short. Australia will be very, very happy with the situation they find themselves in,” Simon Katich was quoted as saying by News18.

India on verge of losing BGT Test series after 10 years

India amazed everyone after they defeated Australia by 295 runs in the first Test in Perth, and took a lead of 1-0. However, the hosts made a great comeback after that with a 10-wicket win in the day-night Test in Adelaide. The third Test at Gabba ended in a draw, while the Aussies continued their domination with a 184-run win in the fourth Test in Melbourne. Now, India are on the verge of losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years.

India last lost a Test series against Australia in 2014-15. After that, the Men in Blue went on to win four consecutive Test series against the Aussies in 2017, 2018-19, 2020-21, and 2023. Now, Australia finally have a chance to win a Test series against India as they are already 2-1 ahead with the fifth and the final Test in Sydney starting on January 3, 2025.
