The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The squads for the home T20I series against Australia and South Africa were also announced.
There were no surprising picks or omissions as the selectors went with regular names. With Ravindra Jadeja unavailable, Axar Patel got a chance in the main squad. R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal are the two other spinners in the squad.
The biggest debate was about Mohammed Shami not getting a place in the main squad and getting picked as a standby player. Apart from Shami, Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Chahar, and Shreyas Iyer were named on the standby players list. As young leg-spinner, Ravi Bishnoi did not get a place in the squads for South Africa and Australia series, the 22-year-old posted a cryptic message on Instagram expressing his feelings.
Bishnoi shared a motivational quote on his Instagram story on Tuesday (20 September). The 22-year-old wrote, “The sun will rise again, and we will try again”.
It’s worth mentioning that Bishnoi was a part of Inia’s squad at the Asia Cup 2022. The leg-spinner fared well in the only chance he got against Pakistan. The 22-year-old took the wicket of captain Babar Azam and gave away only 26 runs in his four overs. He was praised for his temperament and skills. Bishnoi did well in the series before that as well. The right-arm leggie picked eight wickets in just three matches against West Indies.
Overall, Bishnoi has played a totwal of 10 T20Is in his career so far and has bagged 16 wickets. His economy rate of 7.08 is what makes him a valuable asset to a team. The 22-year-old also has a really sharp googly that turns a long way to trouble batters.
