India suffered a heartbreaking defeat to England (by ten wickets) in the semifinal of the T20 World Cup and their quest to end the title drought was quashed too. The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) tactics of appointing a new captain and coach after Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri gave up their respective posts did not augur well for the team.
While India won most of their bilateral T20I series under the tenure of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid, the team failed to perform in big tournaments. India were knocked out of Asia Cup 2022 and then they failed to make it to the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 as well. The ten-wicket defeat to England attracted a lot of criticism as fans questioned many strange tactics adopted by Sharma and Dravid.
Now, as India suffered a shocking defeat to Bangladesh on Sunday (4 December), Rohit Sharma was once again at the centre of criticism. Notably, India had reduced Bangladesh to 136/9 but they conceded 51 runs to the last batting pair of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman and lost the match. This defeat infuriated the fans and they slammed the captain and the coach.
A user then asked a question about the achievements of Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma since they started their tenure. “What are the achievements of Dravid & Rohit for Indian Cricket since they are appointed as the Head Coach and Captain respectively? Discuss,” tweeted the user. Meanwhile, others joined the debate as they slammed the captain-coach duo.
“The biggest achievement of rohit dravid era is our fielding standard has gone to gutters. Every other player miss the easiest of catch nd do shit ground fielding,” replied one user. “They have made this team a musical chair . The most pathetic decision is rotation policy. There was some reason why Dhoni passed the captaincy batton to Kohli not Rohit,” opined another.
