The ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers are underway in Zimbabwe, where the hosts are taking on Nepal in their first match on June 18, Sunday. By winning the toss, the hosts invited their rivals to bat first and saw Nepal pulling off a score of 290 with a loss of eight wickets. While the Zimbabwe team managed to restrict Nepal below 300 with their explosive bowling, a funny incident has gone viral from the match where the Zimbabwe bowler Tendai Chatara dropped a catch.
In the 32nd over, while Aasif Sheikh and Kushal Bhurtel were batting for their team, Chatara ended up dropping a high catch off Aasif’s bat and missed a golden opportunity of dismissing Sheikh. The Nepal batter ended up scoring 66 runs off 100 deliveries and needless to say, the missed chance proved costly to the bowling team as Nepal capitalised on the opportunity and went on to post a challenging score. The glimpses of Chatara missing the catch went viral in no time, and Chatara’s catch drop became a talking point on social media.
Fans highlighted the significance of fielding in a game and criticised the Zimbabwe fielder for the same. While someone said that this kind of fielding should be considered illegal, another fan took a dig at the cricketer and called him an absolute genius.
