After scoring his maiden T20I fifty against the West Indies on August 6, Sunday, Tilak Varma pulled out a special celebration in the Providence Stadium. The middle order batter for Team India went on to dedicate his fifty celebration to Rohit Sharma's daughter, Samaira.
Tilak Varma played an enterprising innings on a challenging pitch while the wickets were falling consistently at the other end. He managed to score 51 runs for his efforts in 41 deliveries, which included five fours and a maximum. Although he was the chief contributor for India in reaching a respectable total of 152/7 in 20 overs, the team lost the match by two wickets in the penultimate over.
In the post-match interview, shared on the official Twitter account of the BCCI, the 20-year-old talked about his maiden T20I fifty celebration before revealing the reason for dedicating it to Rohit Sharma’s daughter. He said, “It was all about (for) Sammy, Rohit bhai’s daughter, because me and Sammy, (our) relation is really good. I just said that whenever I will score a century or a fifty, I will do a celebration for her, so I have done the celebration for Sammy.”

Tilak Varma also discussed his rapport with Rohit Sharma, the captain of Team India, with whom he shares the dressing room for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-handed batter was quoted as saying, “Yeah, of course, I will be talking to him (Rohit Sharma), because he has been a support system for me always. He said to enjoy the game.”
“He always talks with me about the game, how to play in international cricket. And also, it has helped me, really. So yeah, I will talk, I will talk to him and yeah, I will come back more stronger,” he added.
