On Saturday, April 12, Abhishek Sharma, the left-handed opening batter, brought up his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) hundred in just 40 balls, helping Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) register a famous eight-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. After reaching the three-figure score, Abhishek Sharma pulled out a “note” which read, “This one is for Orange Army”, and in the post-match interview, his opening partner Travis Head revealed the secret about him carrying it in his pocket for six straight matches in the IPL 2025 season.

The high-scoring contest between SRH and PBKS in Hyderabad began with the visitors reaching a massive score of 245/6 in their allotted overs after Shreyas Iyer top-scored for them with 82 runs in 36 balls with six fours and six maximums. Some of the other fiery but cameo innings for PBKS in their batting effort came from the likes of Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Nehal Wadhera, and Marcus Stoinis, while for SRH, Harshal Patel took four wickets.

Abhishek Sharma helped SRH register second highest run chase in IPL history

After losing four matches on the spin in the IPL 2025, SRH had their task cut out with an imposing target of 246 runs in front of them, but the likes of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma made a mockery out of the PBKS bowling attack. Head and Sharma shared an opening stand of 171 runs in just 12.1 overs before the Australian was dismissed for 66 runs in 37 balls with nine fours and three maximums, setting up a perfect platform for SRH to chase the target down.

Abhishek Sharma continued on his merry way with the bat, not only bringing up the maiden hundred and celebrating it in style, but also ended up scoring 141 runs in just 55 balls with 14 four and 10 sixes, to put SRH on the brink of a win. Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan stayed unbeaten at the crease to take their team over the finishing line with nine balls to spare, registering the second-highest run chase in IPL history.

During the post-match interview on a show produced by Star Sports, Travis Head ended up revealing the secret behind Abhishek Sharma’s note celebration after scoring a hundred while speaking to the host along with Ambati Rayudu and Michael Clarke. He was quoted as saying, “The note has been in the pocket of Abhishek Sharma for six games, glad it came out tonight”, to a massive laughter from all of them.

With this vital win, SRH have brought their IPL 2025 campaign back on track, but they can’t afford to slip up anymore with the business end of the league stage fast approaching.
