India’s Judo expert Tulika Maan has secured her berth in the Paris Olympics 2024 on May 30, Thursday. The Indian judoka reserved her berth in the continental quota system, and in the forthcoming global marquee tournament, she will compete in the +78 kg category. Maan, who defeated Asian champion and Olympic gold favourite Kim Hayun in the Asian Judo Championships quarters will participate in the Olympics for the first time.
For the unversed, the continental quota, through which Maan has sealed her spot at the Paris 2024, is awarded to the judoka who has the most points across both genders on the continental ranking list. The 25-year-old who will be debuting at the Olympics won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
In the 2022 and 2024 editions of the World Championships, the Delhi born advanced to the Round of 16. On the other hand, in the 2017 and 2019 editions, Maan finished sixth in the standings. The youngster rose to prominence with her white metal in Birmingham, which has also been the highlight of her career. In addition, the Indian judoka has been a gold medalist in the 2019 South Asian Games that were held in Kathmandu, Nepal.
In her junior career, Maan won bronze medalis in the Asian Junior Championships in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and Beirut, Lebanon, in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
