Cristiano Ronaldo is an ageless wonder. Despite being 36-years of age, the Portugal star works very hard on his fitness to stay competitive against the best in the world and continue his goal-scoring spree. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was superb yet again on Tuesday when he completed a record hat-trick against Luxembourg.
However, it was a shot from Ronaldo that was prevented from going into the net that seems to have attracted more eyeballs. This is because of the manner in which Ronaldo got the first touch on the ball and then got himself into a beautiful position, had that goal found the back of the net, fans would have exploded the internet with Ronaldo trending all over the internet.
It took a superb effort from Luxembourg goalkeeper Anthony Moris to keep that ball from going inside the net and manage to steal some limelight from CR7 who eventually did manage to complete his hat-trick with a late header after converting a couple of penalties inside the first 13 minutes.
The incident happened in the 68th minute of the match when the former Real Madrid and Juventus star got in control of a fine cross, flicked it up beautifully to give himself a good height before going for the bicycle kick which was on target and was rocketing the goal until a diving Moris came in its way and denied Ronaldo a moment of glory.
Even the five-time Ballon d'Or winner could not believe that his effort had not fetched him a goal as he continued to shake his head as got up on his feet. However, he later completed his hat-trick and would be a happy man as Portugal completed a thrashing win of the European minnows 5 goals to none.
Portugal now have 16 points from 6 matches in Group A and are just one point behind table leaders Serbia.
