Premier League giants Chelsea will travel to the Santiago Bernabeu to face defending champions Real Madrid for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League 2022-23 quarter-final on Wednesday night. The Spanish champions beat Liverpool in the Round of 16 while the Blues defeated Borussia Dortmund to reach the quarterfinals.
Real Madrid have had a mixed couple of weeks as they beat Barcelona comfortably at the Camp Nou in the Copa Del Rey but lost to Quique Setien's Villareal at home. This tie is a repeat of the last year's dramatic quarterfinal when Ancelloti's men came back from a two-goal deficit to win the game, courtesy of a Benzema hattrick. Los Blancos put six goals past Liverpool in the Round of 16 and with Vinicius Jr and Benzema back to their best, it is poised to be another goal fest.
Chelsea are the most turbulent club right now with Potter being sacked and Lampard reappointed. The new caretaker manager started with a 1-0 loss to Wolves this weekend which slid them down to the bottom half of the Premier League table. The Blues now face their biggest test in the UCL this season and their star signings should be at their best if they want to get a result from this game. The UCL is now their only hope for some silverware this season and it will be a big upset if they manage to go past Real Madrid.
