After his team's 0-1 defeat in the UEFA Champions fixture against Inter Milan at San Siro on Tuesday, FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez expressed his displeasure on the level of refereeing in the match .

For the unversed, the defeat has witnessed Blaugrana slip to the third place in Group C which is six points behind group leaders Bayern Munich after they were handed their second defeat. At least two crucial handball calls went against the La Liga giants in this fixture which ultimately seemed to have cost them the match.

Barca also found an equaliser in the second half only for it to be ruled out after a pitch review by Slavko Vincic following a pitch review that noted a "handball" by Ansu Fati.

In the second instance, Barcelona were not given a penalty in the dying minutes of the game as the match officials ruled against their claim that Denzel Dumfries had been the culprit of a handball even when the ball had touched Fati in a similar fashion.

"If you ask me I’m outraged... the word is outrage because it makes no sense, it’s an injustice. I think it’s an injustice, I just can’t hide it," Xavi said at the press conference after the match.

"I think the referee should explain himself. He should come here and explain but he has just gone home. I think that they should speak. It would be important that they spoke to explain their decisions like we do. I think it’s fundamental," he added.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi said that the was happy that his team was able to come back to winning ways after a poor season up until this match.

"It gives us great confidence beating a team of this quality. We really needed it... I was feeling OK because on Saturday (a 2-1 loss to Roma), I saw good things from the team but with errors which in other matches wouldn’t have cost us," Inzaghi stated at the presser.
