It has been confirmed that MMA star Conor McGregor will return to the ring on September 11 in a wheelchair boxing match. The former two-division UFC champion is currently recovering from a broken leg sustained during the main event of UFC 264. The Irish fighter suffered a broken fibula and tibia against Dustin Poirier earlier this month but McGregor will be seen fighting again just two months later.

While the injury has reportedly ruled McGregor out of MMA competition for at least a year, the Irishman will compete in a charity wheelchair boxing match. Event organiser Stevo Timothy announced on Twitter that UFC superstar McGregor would step into the ring to face impressionist Al Foran. Fans couldn't hold their excitement after the announcement was made.

“Drum roll ladies and gentlemen,” Timothy wrote on social media.

“The co-main event: Conor McGregor vs Al Foran AKA The Notorious vs The Notorious Impressionist all in aid of the Irish Wheelchair Association.”

The bout will take place on September 11 at the Clayton Hotel in Galway, Ireland.

Who is McGregor's opponent Al Foran

Al Foran is an Irish impressionist and comedian, who became famous for mimicking McGregor. Notably, Foran rose to fame when his impressions of McGregor went viral online. As a result, the clash is also being billed as ‘McGregor vs McGregor’.

However, the wheelchair boxing match between Conor McGregor and Al Foran is expected to feature as the co-main event of the charity fight night. Meanwhile, the wheelchair bout between Timothy, who has incomplete paraplegia and uses a wheelchair, and former Olympian Paddy Barnes is slated as the main attraction.

All proceeds from the wheelchair boxing match will go to the Irish Wheelchair Association.
