Umesh Yadav, the Indian fast bowler, has signed a three match deal with Essex to appear in the Division One of the County Championship 2023 season in England. The 35-year-old is going to replace Doug Bracewell, the fast bowler from New Zealand in the squad, to be the second overseas player alongside Simon Harmer.
In 2022, Umesh Yadav, who has picked 170 wickets in 57 Tests for India, participated in three County Championship matches for Middlesex, taking only four wickets. His stint with the cricket club ended prematurely due to a quad injury, while playing against Gloucestershire in the Royal London One Day Cup.

During the ongoing season of the Division One of the County Championship 2023 season, Umesh Yadav is expected to play against Middlesex and Hampshire at the County Ground in Chelmsford, before travelling to compete against Northamptonshire. In a press release from Essex, the Nagpur-born cricketer talked about his upcoming cricket stint in England and said, “I am really pleased to join Essex and make what I hope will be some valuable contributions to the team's success this year.”
“I enjoyed playing in England with Middlesex last season, and it will be good to return and test myself in those conditions again, especially in the midst of a title race, ” he added.
The head coach of Essex, Anthony McGrath, also shared his thoughts about bringing Umesh Yadav to the cricket club and said, “Umesh is a superb signing for us, and we all know what he will be able to bring to our attack at a crucial time of the season.”
“He is vastly experienced and has taken wickets at the top levels of the game for more than a decade now, so as well as contributing during our run-in, we hope he can pass on some of his wisdom to our young players too,” remarked the 47-year-old.
