Superstar sprinter Usain Bolt has been trying to trademark a logo of his signature victory celebration pose. The former Jamaican athlete submitted has application in the US. Bolt has been recognised globally for the move where he leans back and gestures to the sky. Bolt routinely brings out the victory after winning gold medals and setting world records.
Bolt filed his application for the trademark on 17 August. The application depicts "The silhouette of a man in a distinctive pose, with one arm bent and pointing to the head, and the other arm raised and pointing upward".
He wants to use the image on clothing, jewellery and shoes, as well as restaurants and sports bars, and filing shows. Usain Bolt applied to register a similar trademark 12 years ago but it has since lapsed under US law. The eight-time Olympic gold medallist retired from athletics at the 2017 World Championships in London.
The Jamaican could only manage to win the bronze in his second last race which was the men's 100m, before pulling out of the race because of his injury just when he began to hit top speed at his final event, the 4x100m relay. But Bolt still holds the world records for the 100m and 200m, making him the fastest man in history.
When Usain Bolt was asked if he would consider a return to racing, he said, “It's too late. If I was going to come back it would have been to be for this Olympics(2021). When I told my coach I was going to retire he sat me down and said 'when you retire that's it. I'm not doing any comeback tours, nothing. So make sure you are ready to retire”.
“I remember I went to him in 2019 and said 'what do you think about coming back for the Olympics?' And he looked at me and said 'don't even start'. "So if it's not my coach, I'm not going to do it, because I believe in him and if he says no, it's no - but I've got that itch though,” the Jamaican star further added.
