Pakistan leg spinner Usama Mir replaced all-rounder Shadab Khan as a concussion substitute during Pakistan’s encounter with South Africa in the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, Pakistan took on Temba Bavuma side at the MA Chidambaram in Chennai on October 27, Friday. With this, Usama became the first ever concussion substitute in ODI World Cup history.

On the third ball of South Africa innings, the Men in Green received a huge blow as vice captain Shadab Khan had to leave the field after suffering a head injury while fielding. The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed the same on Twitter announcing, “Pakistan have taken a concussion substitute for Shadab Khan in the ongoing match against South Africa. Usama Mir will replace Shadab.”
The tweet added, “Shadab hit his head while fielding. He briefly took the field, but after a thorough assessment, the Pakistan team medical panel decided to replace him. The substitute request was approved by the match referee.”
