For the first time since 1993, the US Women National Team (USWNT) have lost three consecutive games. After facing back-to-back losses against England (2-1) on October 7 and Spain (2-0) on October 11, USWNT faced their third straight defeat against Germany 1-2 in a friendly game on Thursday night.
During the friendly between USWNT and Germany, midfielder Rose Lavelle made a magnificent run into the box from the right flank surpassing defenders and attempted a pass towards forward Sophia Smith, but was deflected by the German goalkeeper and found captain Lindsey Horan, who hit the crossbar in the first half.
Watch the unlucky shot:
Megan Rapinoe scored the equalizer for her side in the 85th minute from a low-cross by Alex Morgan, who made her 199th appearance for the USWNT on Thursday. However, Germany scored the winner with just one minute left into the regulation time and snapped the American's 71-game winning streak at home.
Another big disappointment for USWNT
In their last three games against England, Spain and Germany respectively, the Gals conceded two goals in every game, which was the first time since 2001 that USWNT conceded more than one goal in three consecutive games.
After breaking multiple records against Germany at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, USWNT will look to take a revenge on Germany when the face each other on Sunday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison. The game against Germany on Sunday will be the final game of 2022 for the US women's team.
