The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday, April 30 announced its 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, set to be played in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA) in June. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had set May 1 as the deadline day for all 20 teams to announce their 15-member squad, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection made the announcement on Tuesday after their discussion in Ahmedabad.
While BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah confirmed Rohit Sharma as the skipper of the side earlier, Hardik Pandya was confirmed to be his deputy despite Rishabh Pant’s return in the side. Apart from the regulars, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson got a nod ahead of KL Rahul, who is seen struggling with form in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Seeing Sanju make it to the 15-member squad for the marquee event, set to be played in June, fans flooded X (Twitter), celebrating his inclusion. While some fans rolled in with the memes stating, “Utsav ki taiyari karo”, a few others shared their excitement on his maiden call-up for the T20 World Cup.
