Indian filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and film critic Anupama Chopra's son Agni Chopra followed his passion and made his debut in the ongoing Ranji season. After making his debut for Mizoram in the Ranji Trophy Plate League earlier this month, 25-year-old Agni broke the world record by smashing centuries in his first four first-class matches.
Agni Chopra scored 767 runs with five centuries in his first four Ranji games, racking up scores of 105, 101, 114, 10, 164, 15, 166, and 92 to average a whopping 95.87, with a strike rate of 111.80. After playing for Mumbai Under-19 and Under-23 teams, the Mizoram batter's coach Khuspreet Singh suggested playing for another team as he would "get playing time" in another team due to the tough competition in the Mumbai circuit.
In a conversation with PTI, Agni said, "So I have been asked this question from childhood that will you go into movies but I never thought I would ever be in movies. I never thought that, oh, I should get in because my dad makes movies and it will be an easy avenue for me.
"I was never interested in movies. I mean I love watching movies and have a great time but it was never my passion."
The young cricketer also talked about his father's advice and said, "My dad told me and my sister when we were younger what his father told him - 'Agar tumhe sadaak par mochi (cobbler) banna hai, apne sadaak ka best mochi banna.' (If you become a cobbler, be the best in your lane)."
