Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) will return with another edition in mid 2025 and ahead of it, the eight franchises are currently vying to secure the services of the best available talent in the ongoing player auction in Chennai. In a notable move, India all-rounder Vijay Shankar, who will be seen serving Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025, was fetched for INR 18 Lakh by Chepauk Super Gillies. With the sum, he has become one of the the costliest players. Shankar has previously served the Gillies in the past and he will be expected to justify his price tag with his performance in the upcoming TNPL edition.

Swapnil Singh became one of the top buys as Chepauk splurged INR 10.8 Lakh to reserve the services of the left-arm spinner. Besides these two names, Mohammed M also received a lucrative deal of INR 18.40 Lakh from Salem Spartans, making him to most expensive player in the 2025 auction, as of writing. Spartans also secured the services of Hari Nishanth for INR 12 Lakh. Washington Sundar, who will be seen in India colours in the Champions Trophy 2025, went to Trichy Grand Cholas for INR 6 Lakh.

Dindigul Dragons eye defend TNPL title with revamped squad

Dindigul Dragons, who won their maiden trophy in 2024 after beating Kovai Kings, will look to defend the title under Ravichandran Ashwin’s captaincy again. In the previous season, Shahrukh Khan became the Player of the Series for bagging 13 wickets for Kovai in nine innings. 

The upcoming competition will be the leagues ninth edition. Chepauk Super Gillies, who have won four titles, are the most-successful side in the league. Narayan Jagadeesan is also the highest run-getter after eight seasons, smashing 2260 runs in 66 matches at a strike rate of 126.82. R Sai Kishore, who has bagged 78 wickets in 59 games, is the leading wicket-taker.
