Vinicius Junior was involved in a controversy when Real Madrid faced Valencia at the Mastella as he was racially abused by some spectators. This was the 10th incident involving the forward that was reported to the prosecutors this season. Now Vinicius Junior is set to lead a committee that will work on removing racism in Football.

Since the incident against Valencia, all football fans have united to support him and the 22-year-old has been vocal against La Liga regarding its lenient punishments after such incidents.  Taking the player’s popularity and his personal experience into account, FIFA president Gianni Infantino appointed Vinicius to lead the special FIFA anti-racism committee after meeting him and the Brazil national team.

The president took a strong stand against racism in football and called for games to be stopped immediately if it happens. Infantino said regarding the anti-racism committee, “I asked Vinicius to lead this group of players that will present stricter punishments against racism that will later be implemented by all football authorities around the world.”

The group will work on giving such people harsher punishments in order to remove racism from football. Vinicius’ appointment as the leader of the FIFA anti-racism committee is a recognition of his courage and character, as well as his skills and potential.

The Brazillian will be joined by other players who share his vision and passion for football, and who want to make it a more inclusive and fair game for everyone. Vinicius is currently involved with the Brazil national team for international friendlies who play Guinea in Barcelona on Saturday night.
