The much-awaited 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is here and defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the tournament opener in Chennai. The match was followed by a starry opening ceremony, which had some of the renowned personalities from the film industry take the centre stage.
However, it was Ruturaj Gaikwad who took the centre stage at the toss, replacing MS Dhoni at the helm, in another heartwarming moment, Indian batter Virat Kohli shared a wholesome hug with the former India and CSK captain MS Dhoni. In the video going viral, as Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis took the guards in the middle, the former took a moment to share a hug and have a few words with Dhoni.
I am not filling MS Dhoni’s shoes: Ruturaj Gaikwad
Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad took the field for the first time as CSK captain on Friday, March 22 in Chennai. However, luck did not favour him at the toss but when asked of his feeling to take the helm, replacing the legend, MS Dhoni, Gaikwad called feeling “privileged”.
He also added that he cannot take MS Dhoni’s shoes no matter what. “I want to try and be in my shoes, not fill anybody’s shoes,” he said. Speaking further of his captaincy, he added, “I got to know last week, but Mahi bhai hinted at it last year. Everyone is experienced here, sadly we are missing Conway and Pathirana.”
