After the conclusion of India’s tour of South Africa, the Men in Blue will now get themselves ready for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. The Afghans will play a three-match series in India, starting January 11. While the first T20I will be played at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, the series will conclude with the final match at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
However, ahead of the series, India captain Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli, both have reportedly made themselves available for T20Is. As reported by the Indian Express, both Kohli and Rohit are keen to return to the shortest format with the T20 World Cup ahead. This comes after the duo has not played a T20 match since India’s exit from the T20 World Cup 2022.
Moreover, the report also claims that Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj could be rested. However, Mohammad Shami’s availability is still under clouds, Siraj and Bumrah starred in the second Test for India against South Africa. It is also being reported that Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav will remain out for the Afghanistan series due to respective injuries.
While Hardik has been out since India’s match against Bangladesh in ODI World Cup 2023, Suryakumar Yadav injured himself during the tour of South Africa after he led the side to a series draw in T20Is.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly set to announce the squad for the three-match T20I series and the Test series against England on January 5.
