A young Virat Kohli shot to fame after leading India U-19 to a memorable victory in the U-19 World Cup in Malaysia in 2008.  Kohli was fast-tracked into the Indian team in the same year after impressive performances in the domestic circuit for his home-team Delhi. Virat Kohli Cricket Career

Kohli first played for Delhi Under-15 team in October 2002 in the 2002–03 Polly Umrigar Trophy and ended up as the leading run-scorer for his team in the tournament with 172 runs at an average of 34.40. In the next edition of the tournament, Virat became the captain of the Delhi U-15 team and scored 390 runs in 5 innings at an average of 78 including two centuries and two fifties. Kohli was selected in Delhi Under-17 team for 2003–04 Vijay Merchant Trophy in 2004 and went on to score 470 runs in just four matches at an average of 117.50. In the next edition of the tournament, which Kohli helped his team win the tournament and was the highest run-scorer with 757 runs from 7 matches at an average of 84.11.

In July 2006, Kohli was rewarded for his fine domestic performances with a call-up to the India Under-19 team on its tour of England. He averaged 105 in the three-match ODI series against England Under-19. Kohli continued to impress for India U-19 and went on to score heaps of runs and also bowled useful medium-pace for the team.

A fitness freak, Kohli is in a league of his own and has combined his technical proficiency with winning mentality to a great effect. An Under-19 world Cup-winning captain in 2008, Kohli attracted attention as he accumulated runs galore at junior levels.
