Former India captain and batting stalwart Virat Kohli did not have a great outing down under in the recently-concluded five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. The 36-year-old could only manage to score 190 runs with his only century being an unbeaten knock in India’s victory in the first Test in Perth.
After that, Virat Kohli struggled continuously, getting out in in a similar manner after edging an outside off-stump delivery to the slips. In the second innings of the Sydney Test, Kohli fell in a similar trap off Scott Boland’s delivery, leaving the field visibly frustrated. However, this tally represents his second lowest scores in BGT series throughout his illustrous career, raising questions on his future in Indian cricket.
Virat Kohli to play until 2027 ODI World Cup: Reports
The below-par outing in Australia recently, has got several talking on the future of Virat Kohli in international cricket after he retired from the shortest format after India’s T20 World Cup win in West Indies in June 2024. But a recent report by PTI has revealed that Kohli is in no mood to retire and will continue to play until the 2027 World Cup.
Furthermore, the cricketer wants to play for another two years, however, his place in the side remains under question with India’s next red-ball assignment scheduled for May-June 2025. Moreover, it has to be seen if Virat Kohli returns to domestic cricket after head coach Gautam Gambhir also reiterated players to play domestic cricket. It is to be noted that Virat Kohli hasn’t played Ranji trophy since 2012, but was named in the probable squad last year, but did not feature.
