Former India and RCB captain and batting maestro Virat Kohli made his first appearance in India days after welcoming his second child with wife and Bollywood celebrity Anushka Sharma. The 35-year-old landed in India on Sunday, March 17 and just a day later joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp in Bengaluru.
The franchise took to social media to confirm the arrival of King Kohli in Bengaluru sharing a video of the Indian batter. “Too much happening too quickly and we’re not slowing down. The Indian batter joins the side ahead of RCB’s Unbox event at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Bengaluru-based franchise is set to announce several big changes, including their name change from Royal Challengers Bangalore to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the RCB Unbox event on March 19.
Speaking of the batting great, Virat Kohli joins the side after taking a long break from cricket citing “personal reasons”. However, he last featured in the Afghanistan T20I series, he missed the five-match Test series against England.
The Bengaluru-based franchise will open their IPL 2024 campaign against reigning champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. They will then travel to their home ground in Bengaluru to play Punjab Kings on March 25 and Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29. The Faf du Plessis-led side will then take on Lucknow Super Giants on April 2 in Bengaluru before travelling to Jaipur to face Rajasthan Royals on April 6.
