Indian batting mainstay and former skipper Virat Kohli recently completed 15 years of his cricketing career. The Indian batter, who is 34 years of age, might be nearing his end of career and experts and pundits have already started suggesting Kohli to retire from some formats to prolong his career in a particular format.
Recently, former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar made a shocking remark and suggested that Kohli should retire from ODI format to focus on Test cricket. His statement came as the former India captain nears Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 international centuries in the longest format of the game.
“I don’t think he (Kohli) should play more 50-overs matches after this World Cup,” Akhtar said in a chat with RevSportz. However, his comments seem to be closely hit former cricketer Sourav Ganguly. The former BCCI President has disagreed with Akhtar, arguing that Kohli should play any form of cricket he wants to since he’s a consistent performer.
“Why? Virat Kohli should play whatever cricket he wants to play. Because he performs,” Ganguly said at an event in Kolkata. However, these talks surrounding Kohli’s future in the sport doesn’t seem to bother him much as he has been performing consistently.
Kohli was last seen during the India tour of West Indies, where he even scored his 29th Test century, his 76th overall.
