However, the 35-year-old isn’t having a good time with the bat in international cricket in 2024 so far. Virat Kohli hasn’t played much cricket for India in 2024. He started his year with the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town from January 3 to January 4. After that, he played two T20Is of the three-match home T20Is series against Afghanistan in January and went on to miss the whole five-match Test series against England.
Virat Kohli has played two Tests, three ODIs, and 10 T20Is for India in 2024 so far. In his first match 2024, Kohli scored 46 runs in the first innings against South Africa in Cape Town. After that, the right-hander scored 29 runs in two T20Is in the home series against Afghanistan including a golden duck in the third T20I. However, Kohli went on to miss the whole five-match home Test series against England due to the birth of his son.

Virat Kohli has played just two matches in 2024 including the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai. In these two matches, he has scored 64 runs in three innings so far, with his highest score being 46 runs in the first innings against South Africa in Cape Town. However, he got out after scoring just 12 runs in the second innings and scored just six runs in the first Test against Bangladesh. Virat Kohli is likely to play seven more Test matches in the remaining year and will be looking to improve his Test stats in 2024.

The Indian cricket team has played only three ODIs in 2024 with Virat Kohli being a part of all those three matches against Sri Lanka. However, he couldn’t score big in the 50-over format as well and ended up scoring just 58 runs at an average of 19.33 in three ODIs in 2024. His highest ODI score this year was 24(42) in the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo on August 2.

Virat Kohli has played 10 T20I matches for India in 2024 and announced his retirement from the shortest format after India won the T20I World Cup this year. After playing two T20Is against Afghanistan in January. Kohli was directly seen playing in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the right-hander had a great season as he finished as the leading run scorer in IPL 2024 with 741 runs from 15 matches.
However, Virat Kohli couldn't continue his IPL form when India traveled to USA and West Indies for the T20 World Cup right after the IPL. With a great record in his T20 World Cup career, Virat Kohli was having his worst season with the bat as he scored just 75 runs in seven matches he played before the final. However, Virat Kohli got his form back in the final against South Africa in Barbados on June 29, where he top scored with 76(59) runs. Kohli was awarded Player of the Match in his last T20 international for India. He announced his retirement after winning the T20 World Cup and scored his only international half-century of 2024 in that final.
