Virender Sehwag, the former ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup winner from 2011, has picked his four teams to make the semi-finals of the upcoming edition of the quadrennial event later this year. The 44-year-old named Australia, England, India, and Pakistan as the top four for the ODI World Cup 2023, which will commence on October 5, while the final will be played on November 19.

The tournament opener will be the repeat of the grand finale from 2019, wherein the defending champions England is going to take on New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The hosts India are going to start their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign against the five-time champions Australia on October 8, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

During a recent event, Virender Sehwag, who was known for swashbuckling displays of batting in his heyday, talked about how England and Australia will definitely be amongst the top 4 in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 due to their unconventional style of play. He also mentioned that these two teams can deliver consistent performances in the subcontinent during the upcoming tournament.

He was quoted as saying, “If I have to pick four teams – Australia, England, India and Pakistan. These are the semi-finalists.”Australia and England will surely be there because the kind of cricket they are playing – they don’t play conventional shots, only unconventional – these 2 teams are pretty good at it.”

“Also, England and Australia are the two away teams who can play better cricket in the sub-continent,” remarked the Nawab of Najafgarh.

Moreover, Virender Sehwag endorsing Team India as one of the names in the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 isn’t a surprise by any means, because of how well the hosts play cricket at home year after year. Pakistan have also improved their limited overs cricket by leaps and bounds in recent times, plus the familiarity with sub-continental pitch conditions will give them an advantage over other teams in the tournament too.
