Mounting on the long list of injuries, Sri Lanka has been marred with another blow with their star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga getting ruled out of the remainder of ODI series against India. The former Sri Lanka captain, who played a pivotal role in starting the series with a draw in the first ODI on Friday, August 2 in Colombo, has sustained a hamstring injury, ruling him out of the remaining ODIs.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Sunday, August 4 confirmed the update on Hasaranga’s injury. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Sri Lanka cricket board wrote, “Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the remainder of the ODI series, as the player has suffered an injury to his left hamstring.”

It is to be noted that Hasaranga experienced pain in his left hamstring on Friday, while delivering the last ball of his 10th over in the first ODI against India. The SLC further added, “An MRI performed on the player, following this, confirmed the injury.”

Jeffrey Vandersay to replace Wanindu Hasaranga in Sri Lanka’s ODI squad

SLC has added Jeffrey Vandersay in the ODI squad for the remaining two ODIs of the three-match series. Moreover, Hasaranga joins the list of injured players which includes the likes of Dilshan Madushanka (hamstring), Matheesha Pathirana (shoulder injury), Dushmantha Chameera (bronchitis and respiratory infection) and Nuwan Thusara (thumb). 

Meanwhile talking of the limited overs tour, India clinched the three-match T20I series under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, the ODI series stands 0-0 after the first ODI, which was played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo ended in a tie. The two nations will next take on each other in the second ODI, scheduled to be played on Sunday, August 4 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
