The new retention rules ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction has put a new debate among cricket fans. With the BCCI coming with the rule of retaining a cricketer, who hasn’t played international cricket for the last five year,s as an uncapped player, has ignited new hopes for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans. Notably, CSK’s MS Dhoni is likely to retained as an uncapped player by the franchise ahead of the mega auction. Former South African cricketer Ab de Villiers shared his opinion that BCCI has brought this rule especially for Dhoni to be a part of IPL again.
With the mega auction coming probably by the end of this year, the franchises can retain a maximum of six players, including one uncapped player. Apart from that, the teams can also use Right to match (RTM) card on a maximum of six players. On his YouTube channel, Ab de Villiers said that MS Dhoni’s is not only important for Chennai Super Kings but also for the IPL and the world cricket in general. the former Proteas cricketer also said that he wants to Dhoni play till his 80s.

On his YouTube channel Ab de Villiers shared a video with a title “Want To See MSD Play Till 80!” where he gave his views about the new uncapped player rule ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. AB de Villiers said that MS Dhoni has a big influence in world cricket, and he would like to see play him in the upcoming season of the IPL in the Chennai Super Kings colours.
"I do feel the uncapped player rule brought back only for MS Dhoni and rightfully so we want to see this man play until his 80s. Everywhere you go, you talk about cricket and his name always comes up," remarked Ab de Villiers, who has been one of the greatest cricketers in world, on his YouTube channel.
