The second Test in Pune between India and New Zealand saw yet another milestone after Yashasvi Jaiswal's 1000 Test score. Washington Sundar achieved a milestone in his Test career by securing first 10-wicket haul against New Zealand. The spinner is likely to increase his wicket tally in coming innings. On the day 1 of the IND vs NZ second Test, Washington Sundar played an instrumental role in New Zealand's defeat. He opened the scoring with a delivery dismissing well-positioned Rachin Ravindra, and he doubled it up in the 2nd Test. The only Indian bowler to have taken wickets besides Ashwin, Washington Sundar, rattled the middle and lower order with six more strikes.
After dismissing well-established player Devon Conway at the beginning of the second innings, Sundar was once again at the forefront of New Zealand's troubles. Rachin Ravindra was his next victim; he was able to crash the ball into the stumps once more. He took his first ten wickets in Test cricket with a period of 7/59.
Grateful for this day: Sundar on his achievement
The right-arm off-spinner was in a great display of his bowling skills. He joined the league of R Ashwin, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis, and others which he says will always remember in his career. Sundar on his achievement felt great. He said, "Really grateful for this day. I don't think I will ever forget this day."
Sundar has played a total of nine innings for India and secured 16 wickets, out of which 10 coming from this on-going Test series against New Zealand. Previously, he played against England and Australia and took two wickets in five innings against England and four wickets during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
Before this Test series, Sundar displayed his all-around skill in the Ranji Trophy, where he scored a 152-run score and a six-wicket haul. Sundar, like the majority of players, has been playing domestic red-ball cricket, participating in both the Duleep Trophy and the Buchi Babu event.
