The SA20 2024 has reached its penultimate stage with defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape securing the finals berth for the second consecutive season. However, the Aiden Markram-led side secured a convincing 51-run win over the Keshav Maharaj’s Durban Super Giants at the Newlands in Cape Town, the match also saw some brilliant display of fielding.

While Marco Jansen and Ottniel Baartman finished with four-wicket hauls, Aiden Markram’s brilliant piece of fielding caught eyeballs. In the fourth over of the Super Giants inning, Markram caught an outstanding catch to dismiss JJ Smuts at duck. On the fourth delivery of the fourth over, Smuts went for a pull shot towards mid-on off fast bowler Ottniel Baartman. However, the batter couldn’t clear it off as Markram timed a perfect leap on his left to complete a one-hand catch over his head.

Not only did this catch leave the players both on and off the field stunned, even the commentators seemed to be loss of words. Mark Nicholas, who was part of the commentary panel at that moment called it “one of the greatest catches!”
Speaking of the match, the Aiden Markram-led side opted to bat first after winning the toss in Qualifier 1 of SA20 2024. The side posted 157/8 in their stipulated 20 overs with Dawid Malan top-scoring with 45-ball 63. However, it was an average score on the pitch of Newlands, brilliant bowling spells from Marco Jansen (4/16) and Ottniel Baartman (4/10) helped the Sunrisers to restrict the Durban Super Giants to 106/10 in 19.3 overs, winning the game by 51 runs. While the Sunrisers have confirmed their finals berth, the Keshav Maharaj-led Durban Super Giants will take on the winner of Paarl Royals versus Joburg Super Kings in Johannesburg on February 8.
