On Friday, March 8, the West Indies all-rounder, Akeal Hosein picked up a hat-trick for Quetta Gladiators against Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). At the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the left-arm orthodox spinner picked up the wickets of the lower-order batters Aamer Jamal, Mehran Mumtaz, and Luke Wood, in consecutive deliveries to achieve the special moment.
In the beginning of the 16th over of their innings, Peshawar Zalmi were comfortably placed at 156/5, with the West Indies T20I captain Rovman Powell controlling the innings. But when Rovman Powell put Aamer Jamal on strike after taking a single of the first ball of the over from Akeal Hosein, neither he nor the crowd expected what was about to happen next.
Akeal Hosein managed to nick off Aamer Jamal (5) on the second ball of the 16th over, with Laurie Evans taking a smart catch behind the stumps. On the next delivery, which was shorter in length, Mehran Mumtaz went back to play the cut stroke, but he could only manage to chop it onto his stumps.
The hat-trick ball from Akeal Hosein was on a probing length around the off stump to Luke Wood. The new batter poked at it gingerly, only to find the Quetta Gladiators captain Rilee Rossouw at first slip, who took a sharp catch to help his bowler complete the hat-trick and send everyone except the Peshawar Zalmi team into a frenzy at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
But, despite the four-wicket haul from Akeal Hosein in his spell, Peshawar Zalmi posted a commanding score of 196/8, thanks mainly to Babar Azam’s yet another fifty in the PSL.
