During the second over of the England innings, Alex Carey, whose primary skill is wicket-keeping in Australian colours, took a spectacular outfield catch, to dismiss Phil Salt cheaply in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. After striking a couple of lusty blows in the first over, Phil Salt tried to hit Ben Dwarshuis over the mid-on region, where Alex Carey flew in the air to grab hold of the ball with his right hand, to send the English opener back into the pavilion.

The moment sparked great celebrations among the Australian players, who were ecstatic at how Alex Carey made an outfield catch look so simple even when he has been a wicket-keeper right throughout his international career. The wicket of highly explosive Phil Salt is quite valuable for an Australian bowling attack, who are missing most of their first choice lineup due to injury and other issues.

Moreover, it was the Australian captain Steve Smith, who won the toss earlier, and he decided to field first in conditions looking relatively good for batting at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The decision was made by the Australian team management citing a lot of dew in practice last evening, which could adversely impact the bowlers, more so the spinners.
