Barbados Royals’ Alick Athanaze produced a gravity defying catch to help Rahkeem Cornwall complete his five-wicket haul in Caribbean Premier League 2024. St. Kitts clashed against Nevis Patriots in the 18th match of the CPL 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. Earlier in the match, Rovman Powell, the skipper of the Royals won the toss and invited the rivals to put the score on the board first.
On the second ball of the 14th over, Cornball delivered a well-executed delivery on the off stump, and Ryan John on the striker's end was aiming to clear the mid-wicket boundary. However, the batter could only manage a top edge. Athanaze, who was stationed in the deep initially misjudged the ball and overran it but then he quickly corrected himself and pulled off a brilliant dive to take the catch. With this wicket, Rahkeem Cornwall completed his five-wicket haul.
Rahkeem Cornwall completes five-wicket haul to help Barbados Royals clinch nine-wicket win
The game saw Rakheem Cornwall complete a five-wicket haul. Patriots, who were asked to bat first didn’t have a great start to their innings and they ended up losing both Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers to Naveen ul Haq during the powerplay. Having lost their top-order batters, all eyes were on skipper Andre Fletcher. However, Cornwall had come up with some other plans. Cornwall, who bowled 8th over , dismissed Fletcher and went on to dismiss Mikyle Louis on the next ball.
Cornwall continued his destruction and got the wicket of Wanindu Hasaranga. In his third over, he picked the wicket of Odean Smith, who was forced to walk back for an eight-ball duck. Ryan John’s wicket proved to be his last and final wicket of the match. Cornwall finished his four-over spell with an impressive figure of 5/16. With this, he now holds the best bowling figures by a West Indies bowler in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
