In his Premier League debut appearance in Manchester United colours, Altay Bayindir, the Turkish goalkeeper, made a big error, allowing Newcastle United to add insult to injury in a relatively one-sided contest, which ended 4-1 in their favour at the St. James’ Park in Tyneside on Sunday, April 13. The 27-year-old was replacing the first-choice Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, who was left out due to poor outing in the mid-week in Europe, but he conceded four goals, including the one to Bruno Guimaraes late on, with a terrible blunder.

In the first half, Newcastle United took the lead in the 24th minute through Sandro Tonali, who hit a volley first-time into the back of the net past Altay Bayindir’s right, who was a mere spectator. Against the run of play, Manchester United scored an equaliser, making it 1-1 with an exceptional counter attack as Alejandro Garnacho found his name on the scoresheet.

There was an anticipation of a good day at the office for Manchester United at the start of the second half, especially with them creating decent chances on the break, but their defense let them down completely. The mistakes from Victor Lindelof and Noussair Mazraoui allowed Harvey Barnes to score a brace within 15 just minutes at the start of the second half, giving Newcastle United a 3-1 lead.

The worst moment for the Manchester United players and support staff on a tough evening at Tyneside came in the 77th minute when a poor pass from Altay Bayindir could only reach Joelinton, who ended up putting it inside the dangerous area. The Newcastle United captain, Bruno Guimaraes, was the quickest to react to the ball, putting it past the Manchester United goalkeeper into the back of the net, to make it 4-1 on the night.

After the conclusion of the match, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “We did a lot of mistakes that made it harder to win a game - that's all. It's a little bit of everything, it's hard to point to one thing.”
