India and Sri Lanka took on each other in the third ODI on Sunday (15 January). India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. Sharma’s decision proved to be right as India raced to 75/0 in their 10 overs. Both Sharma and Shubman Gill scored runs at a quick rate. After the captain got out, Gill led the charge with Virat Kohli playing second fiddle. Eventually, Gill scored a century before perishing to Kasun Rajitha. 

Meanwhile, Kohli slowly and steadily built his innings from the other end. The 34-year-old scored a half-century off 48 balls. Kohli continued his brilliant run and converted this score into a three-figure score as he got to his 46th ODI century in 85 balls. But just the ball before Kohli’s century, an unfortunate incident took place in the match that left everyone worried. 

As Kohli swatted a short ball from Chamika Karunaratne, two Sri Lanka fielders, Ashen Bhandara and Jeffrey Vandersay, collided while trying to stop the boundary and one of the got injured really badly. Such was the intensity of the collision that Bhandara had to be stretchered off the field.

Meanwhile, the other seemed to be in immense pain. However, he got back on his feet and walked back to the pavilion.
