Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin met the reigning World Chess Champions D Gukesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Ashwin was seen wearing a smile on his face while meeting with the 18-year-old. The veteran spinner will be seen in Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) jersey again after 10 years with his appearance in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 to kick off on March 22. In the IPL 2025 auction held in Jeddah, the spin wizard was snapped up for INR 9.75 crore by the Yellow Army. Chennai will begin their campaign against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 23.
Ahead of IPL 2025, Ashwin met Gukesh and shook hands with him. Former India player also gifted a CSK jersey to the young chess champion. Both also squared off against each other in a chess game, following which Ashwin signed the board. Both Ashwin and Gukesh looked delirious during the meeting. Following the interaction between both Chennai-born icons, CSK took to X and posted a clip with the caption, “World champion of chess! A Chennai paiyan at heart! A sparring with Ashwin! Introducing Chennai Superstars! Get set to meet Gukesh and his love for the city!”
CSK will strive to continue their dominance against MI at Chepauk
CSK supporters will be expecting their team to replicate their previous year’s performance against MI. The Yellow Army haven’t lost to Mumbai in the last couple of seasons and they will look to hand another defeat to the Men in Blue in their opening contest on March 23.
Ashwin’s responsibility will be to spearhead CSK’s spin-bowling attack with confidence. He will be assisted by Ravindra Jadeja and Noor Ahmad. The spin-bowling trio can pose tough questions to MI’s batting unit as Chennai’s surface is known for favouring spinners.
