The Indian Premier League 2024 auction was entertaining with record-breaking bids for world-class players. But amidst the chaotic bidding wars, Punjab Kings committed a blunder after mistakenly bidding for a player they didn't, at the time, need. The Shikhar Dhawan-led side had a decent auction after finding quality players to fill in some glaring holes from 2023.

But as the auction reached its final few sets, Punjab Kings focused on uncapped Indian players when they made this blunder. As Auctioneer Mallika Sagar called Shashank Singh's name, Punjab Kings emerged as the only bidders after raising the paddle and got Singh for his base price of INR 20 lakh.

However, moments after, PBKS realized that Shashank Singh was not someone they needed. Following the deal, team owners Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia and PBKS staff were seen discussing and then trying to stop the auctioneer, as she announced the next player, to cancel the deal.
