India’s star all-rounder Axar Patel pulled off a stunning gravity-defying catch to dismiss David Miller in the third T20I on Wednesday, November 13. India recorded an 11-run win over Proteas in the third game of the four-match series, gaining a 2-1 lead over the rivals. The sides are set to lock horns in the final game of the series at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Friday, November 15.
During the third game, Patel pulled off a stunning catch to dismiss David Miller when the hosts needed 86 runs off five overs to record a win. The incident took place in the 16th over of the second innings, when Miller flicked Hardik Pandya for a six towards fine leg. He tried to hit another six on the next delivery and pulled a short delivery towards the deep mid-wicket. The ball seemed to be going over Patel’s head but he quickly jumped to catch the ball and complete an unbelievable catch. The southpaw had to depart for 18 runs off 18 as the T20I World Cup 2023 runners up were reduced to 142/5.

The game saw the Suryakumar Yadav-led side securing an 11 run win, owing to the brilliant knocks by Tilak Varma (107*) and Abhishek Sharma (50). After having asked to bat first, the visitors posted a mammoth total of 219 runs with the loss of six wickets. In return, the home favourites got off to a decent start. Things seemed to be in their favour until David Miller’s dismissal, when they required 77 runs off the last four overs.
However, Marco Jansen went all guns blazing and came up with a powerful knock of 54 runs in 17 balls to take the hosts closer to a win. However, he was dismissed when his team needed 18 runs off the last three balls and India eventually recorded a win with a margin of 11 runs. On India’s side, Arshdeep Singh finished with figures of 3/37 while Varun Chakravarthy recorded 2/52 in four overs.
