During the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match between Khulna Tigers and Rangpur Riders, Babar Azam was spotted hilariously rubbing the on-field umpire’s shoulder after Dasun Shanaka’s hit struck him on his body. The video of the incident has gathered steam on the social media platform X, showcasing the happy-go-lucky persona of the former Pakistan captain.
It was the last ball of the 12th over of the Khulna Tigers innings from Mahedi Hasan of the Rangpur Riders, which the Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka managed to strike straight at the on-field umpire standing behind the stumps. The on-field umpire tried to get out of the way of the ball’s trajectory, but he was unsuccessful in doing that.

This led to Babar Azam walking up to the on-field umpire before rubbing him on his shoulder to ease the painful blow of the ball striking him on his body. Seconds later, the on-field umpire shifted his attention to the task at hand, letting the Pakistan batting superstar know about it before they walked away from each other to resume the next over of the innings.
Notably, Khulna Tigers managed to post a competitive total of 160/6 on the board, thanks to the 77-run stand between the overseas duo of Dasun Shanaka and Mohammad Nawaz, who scored a fifty, after they lost a few early wickets. In response, Babar Azam of the Rangpur Riders was dismissed by his national teammate Mohammad Wasim Jr for two runs, trapping him LBW.
Mohammad Nabi scored a fifty for Rangpur Riders to keep them in the hunt, but his dismissal led to their innings collapsing at 132 all out within 19 overs, losing the contest to Khulna Tigers by 28 runs.
