After a dull draw in series opener, the 2nd Test between Pakistan and Australia in Karachi proved out to be quite an interesting thriller. All the three results looked possible coming into Day 5 of the match, despite the home side being asked to chase a mammoth target of 506 runs. After losing couple of early wickets in 4th innings, Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique showed incredible resilience to torment the Aussie bowlers.
From 21/2, the duo added 228 runs in 86.4 overs to set up the platform for a historic draw at National Stadium. But unfortunately, young Shafique lost his concentration after entering the nervous 90s and eventually succumbed to Pat Cummins with an outside edge going straight into the hands of Steve Smith at slips.
Babar's reaction sums up the story of Shafique's dismissal
Shafique departed on 96 (off 305 balls) at the stroke of lunch on Day 5 and out of nowhere, Australia were back in the game once again. The visitors had got the much-needed breakthrough and Babar Azam, standing at the other end, was absolutely gutted.
The disappointment on the face of Pakistan captain was clearly visible and his act certainly reflected the same, with the whole world getting to know how Babar was feeling. The 27-year-old had both hands on his waist, which resembled the viral 'Disappointed Pakistan Fan Meme' featuring Muhammad Sarim Akhtar.
Pat Cummins take another wicket but Babar stays firm
The Aussie captain bowled a superb spell after lunch and eventually dismissed Fawad Alam to get another crucial wicket for his side. However, Babar Azam stayed firm in the middle and crossed the 150-run mark to keep his side in the race for a famous draw. At the time of writing, Pakistan's score read 289/4 in 125 overs, with around 47 overs left for the day's play.
