On Friday, December 20, Bangladesh recorded a historic 3-0 win over West Indies in the T20I series to register a historic whitewash. The Bangla Tigers took down their counterparts with a record 80-run win in the final fixture at Arnos Vale Ground. It was their second-biggest ever victory margin in the format as well as the biggest ever against a Full Member nation in terms of runs. With the win, Bangladesh became the third nation to whitewash West Indies in a T20I series in their backyard.
The other two nations include India and England, who have whitewashed West Indies in a series. Not only this, but it also sealed their first overseas T20I whitewash in a three-match series after 12 years. The last time they recorded a whitewash was in Belfast in 2012 against Ireland. The current 3-0 win is their first against a Full Member nation as Ireland only gained this status in 2017.
Jaker Ali’s blistering 72* guides Bangladesh to 3-0 win over West Indies
The final game of the series saw Jaker Ali coming up with a blistering knock of 72* runs to record a dominating win over the West Indies. Ali got a reprieve in the game when he thought he had been run out on 18. During his knock, he hit a total of six maximums and three fours off just 41 balls to pace his side to a challenging 189 for seven after Bangla skipper Litton Das opted to bat first.
In return, West Indies were bundled out for 109 off 16.4 overs, with all-rounder Romario Shepherd top scoring with 33. Bangladesh’s wrist-spinner Rishad Hossain led the bowling unit with three for 21, while fellow spinner Mahedi Hasan and Taskin Ahmed picked two wickets each. Hasan was adjudged “Man of the Series.”
