England captain Ben Stokes scored a fast-paced century on Friday to put his team in a commanding position in the second Test against South Africa. Stokes embraced England's new aggressive batting approach, called ‘Bazball’, which was popularised against England and India earlier this year.
Stokes played a controlled innings but eventually perished 103 off 163 balls with six fours and three sixes. The England captain showed off his class throughout the day, but one of his best shots came as he reached his half-century. He played a lofted shot, hitting a massive six down the ground over long-on that went straight into the England dressing room.

After the day’s play, South Africa fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-82 reacted to Ben Stokes and the English batting. “That was definitely a major time in the game when we got those wickets this morning," Nortje said.
"To try and keep that pressure on... it's not every time that we're going to get a team out in a session or two. It was definitely the period to try get more sticks - may be something happening with the ball maybe a bit more bounce. As the ball got older it became more difficult.”
South Africa currently trail by more than 180 runs with K Petersen (20* off 48) and R van der Dussen (10* off 32) in the middle.
