But on the fourth delivery of the seventeenth over, a major mishap was avoided as Max Bryant sent the ball over the boundary rope for a maximum. Andrew Tye who was called into the attack, bowled a flat ball which Bryant smashed over long on for a six. The cameraman who was placed outside the boundary rope nearly escaped an injury which could have been a massive tragedy in the BBL finale.

Talking more on the road to the final for both teams, the defending champions won the qualifier by 7 wickets, beating Sydney Sixers to seal the first berth in the final. Whereas, the Brisbane Heat sailed through the Eliminator, beating Sydney Thunder by 8 runs (DLS Method). They then went on to play Renegades in the Knockout, winning the match by 7 wickets to set up the Challenger clash against the Sydney Sixers. They eventually beat the Sixers by 4 wickets to advance into the final.
