Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum is no stranger to TD Garden, where he has played hundreds of games and scored thousands of points in his six-year NBA career. On Wednesday night, he was there for a different reason: to join rapper Drake on stage for his show in Boston.
Drake, one of the most popular and successful artists in the world, is known for bringing out celebrities and athletes during his concerts, especially in their home cities. The rapper has previously invited LeBron James, Draymond Green, Steph Curry, and others to share the spotlight with him.
In Boston, Drake decided to surprise the fans by bringing out Tatum, who is one of the best players in the league and a four-time All-Star. Drake introduced Tatum as his "brother" and walked him to the stage, where they hugged and greeted the crowd.
The Celtics star walked down the stadium steps with Drake while "Look What You've Done" played over the speakers; a subtle nod to what Tatum has accomplished in so little time. The song, which is a tribute to his mother and grandmother was fitting, as Tatum has often credited his mother for his success and motivation.
Tatum has had a busy summer, marketing his Jordan Brand signature shoe, supporting the WNBA, and preparing for the upcoming season. He has also seen changes in his team, as longtime teammate Marcus Smart and backup center Grant Williams left as free agents.
Tatum will be looking to lead the Celtics back to contention in the Eastern Conference, where they finished second last season and lost in the second round of the playoffs. The power forward averaged 30.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game last season.
