Liverpool registered a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea to win the League Cup final on Sunday at the iconic Wembley Stadium. While the match had finished goal-less, it had gone down to the shootout to decide the winner where each and every penalty was converted except for the final one from Chelsea's goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

In the most dramatic of events, the game came down to the shootout between the goalkeepers and while Liverpool's substitute goalie Caoimhin Kelleher scored, his Chelsea counterpart fired it way over the bar resulting in a frenzy celebration by the Reds' players and the fans.

As soon as Kelleher netted the goal, he ensured that Liverpool have a cent per cent penalty shootout record with 11 out of 11 goals but Kepa's miss meant that the game and the title was decided by one of the finest margins in the game ultimately witnessing 21 out of 22 successful attempts at finding the back of the net from the spot.

With the title gone from their hands, the Blues could have a hard time digesting this defeat, especially with Mason Mount missing a couple of great chances to score in either half. A goal there could have simply changed the complexion of the match and perhaps the eventual result but that wasn't to be. Chelsea even had a goal disallowed with a very tight off-side call, another reason why it would be difficult for them to move on from this match.

With the Jurgen Klopp-led side tasting victory in this fixture, the Reds' won the title for the first time since 2012.

"After the game it was nice to celebrate with the people after a long time without having any reason to celebrate something, or not the opportunity to celebrate something. So, I’m really happy about the whole thing," Klopp said during his post-match press conference.

Meanwhile, Kelleher also stated that he had never imagined he would net the match-deciding penalty for his team.
