On Friday, December 29, the Adelaide Strikers batter Chris Lynn hit the roof of the Docklands Stadium against Will Sutherland of Melbourne Renegades in the BBL game. It led to the umpires awarding six runs to Chris Lynn after deciding that the ball was going to clear the boundary as per the new rule introduced in the T20 competition.
Before the ongoing season of the Big Bash League (BBL) began, Cricket Australia introduced a new rule in regard to the ball hitting the roof at the Docklands Stadium. They allowed the umpires to use their discretion to make a decision whether the ball was going to clear the boundary, if yes, then the batter gets six runs, if no, then the ball is dead.

The implementation of this rule led to Chris Lynn getting awarded six runs by the umpire after he had hit the ball on the roof of the Docklands Stadium in a clinical manner. Prior to getting dismissed for 56 off 34 with four fours and four maximums, Chris Lynn shared an impressive partnership of 82 runs for the second wicket with D’Arcy Short to put Adelaide Strikers in a decent position.
But, then the spin bowling pairing of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Adam Zampa for Melbourne Renegades put the brakes on the scoring rate of the opposition. The Afghanistan international picked up three wickets for just 20 runs in his four over spell before Jamie Overton and Harry Nielsen provided much needed flourish for Adelaide Strikers to reach the score of 177/6 in their innings.
