South Korea clinched a Round 16 spot with their 2-1 win over Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022, on Friday. With that result, Luis Suarez-starrer Uruguay crashed out of the competition despite winning their last Group H match over Ghana.
While the game between Portugal and South Korea heading 1-1 till the extra time, Hwang Hee-chan's stoppage time goal turned the equation on its head as South Korea not only clinched 3-points from the match but also advanced South Korea through to the next round.
Earlier, Uruguay went two goals ahead as Giorgian de Arrascaeta joined hands with Luis Suarez to score twice in the first half to give his team a chance to proceed to the knockout round, before a late strike from South Korea saw them beat Portugal 2-1 and spoil Uruguay's party.
Portugal ended the group league matches as the table topper with 6-points in three games followed by South Korea.
A video featuring legendary Cristiano Ronaldo has gone viral on the internet where the former Manchester United striker can be seen showing respect to his counterpart, Son Heung-min, and hugging him before both sides stepped into the field.
Notably, Son has earlier gone on record praising Ronaldo, where he had expressed his desire to learn from the five-time Ballon d'Or.

Meanwhile, reports have suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo has received a proposal from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal to rival an earlier bid made by their domestic rivals Al Nassr.
The Portuguese legend ended his relationship with Manchester United by mutual consent last week, following his shocking interview with Piers Morgan. Reportedly, European giants like Paris Saint-German, alongside Bayern Munich, Sporting Lisbon are few of the prominent clubs which have distanced themselves from making any move to rope in the record goal-scorer whose prime form has deserted him so far this season.
