UFC CEO and President Dana White announced the first-ever Chinese vs Chinese fight in UFC 300 on January 11, Thursday. The fight is set to take place on April 13, 2024, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and will feature top fighters from China. The first announced fight features a title clash between two Chinese fighters, Zhang Weili, and Yan Xiaonan. It will be the UFC’s first-ever Chinese vs Chinese title fight in history.
Earlier this week, the UFC boss revealed that former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira will meet fourth-ranked Arman Tsarukyan in Las Vegas. Now White announced that Weili Zhang will defend her strawweight title against second-seeded Yan Xiaonan. In an announcement on social media platforms, White said, “August 31, 2019, history was made when Zhang Weili defeated Jessica Andrade to become the first Chinese champion in UFC history.”
The 54-year-old added, “Guess what, five years later, we will see history being made again as Zhang Weili faces Yan Xianon for the strawweight title at UFC 300. This is the first time two Chinese contenders have faced off for a world title." Zhang in her last clash in UFC 292 against Amanda Lemos, set a new UFC women’s record for the largest striking differential. Her victory over Lemos was recorded as the fourth Performance of the Night Award.
As per the official announcements, In UFC 300, Weili Zhang will clash against Yan Xiaonan in a Strawweight Title Bout. Jiří Procházka will be up against Aleksandar Rakić in Light Heavyweight Bout. The Lightweight bout will be between Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan, while the Featherweight bout is slated between Aljamain Sterling and Calvin Kattar with Bo Nickal clashing against Cody Brundage in the Middleweight category.
