UFC President and CEO Dana White announced two new UFC fights; UFC 299 and UFC 300 in a video. The UFC 299 bout will have Dustin Poirier taking on Benoit Saint-Denis in a five-round co-main event. On the other hand, the UFC 300 event will feature Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan, fighting in one of the biggest shows of the year. The UFC 299 is scheduled to take place on March 9 in Miami, while the UFC 300 is slated to take place on April 13 in Las Vegas.
White announced the pairings in a video on Monday, January 8 (IST), and revealed the contenders for both the UFC bouts. White said that Poirier and Denis asked for a five-round bout to which he happily agreed. In the UFC 299, Poirier will make his highly anticipated return to the action since a head-kick knockout loss to Justin Gaethje in July 2023, which put him at 4-2 overall in his last six fights.
The 34-year-old former interim champion aims to get back on track while facing one of the top names in the 155-pound division. Talking about the UFC 300 bout, the winner of the clash will become the No. 1 contender for champion Islam Makhachev, who is expected to return soon after recovering from an injury. Oliveira was originally set to clash against Makhachev at UFC 294 in October 2023, but a last-minute cut suffered in training forced him out of that main event spot.
Oliveira, “Do Bronx” first clashed against Makhachev at UFC 280 for a light-weight title which Makhachev ended up winning. The UFC 300 bout is yet to have a headline event with Jiri Prochazka versus Aleksandar Rakic, Calvin Kattar versus Aljamain Sterling, and Bo Nickal versus Cody Brundage being prospects.
